a solid red, dry and with some yeast character, an irish type, this really is the only time of year i choose this sort of thing, and i did this afternoon to be festive. its a style of beer thats just for drinking to me, not for thinking, and a good one is sort of just a beer, where its really only the bad ones that warrant much commentary. this though is well done, different enough to stand out in a samey style, and isnt as sugary as some, so i could happily do a few pints of it. the yeast is slightly bready, but not overwhelming, not quite as drying and doughy as the most authentic irish types, but with the malt build this has and it finishing less sweet, its close enough for me and still more dynamic than most. some light bittering hops at the end, but pretty subtle there and fast finishing overall, even refreshing for the style with some upbeat carbonation. i think the beer remains good and underappreciated in here, they are well ahead of the local curve across pretty much all their stuff i have had. this is a nice red for this time of year, stronger than the imported irish stuff for the most part, and rather clean.

Grunt fill from Albertsons. Dark amber, kind of a dull;flat pour. Huge malty aroma, no doubt about it. Taste brings some caramel and toffee, kind of dry, malty with out being overly sweet. Straight up cereal malts. And pretty delicious too.
