Served from the can in a Phase Three snifter.
Okay, maybe it's nostalgia talking, I dunno. Anyway, this stuff pours a solid obsidian topped by over a finger of tan foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, sharp grasses, a bit of candied orange peel, mild cocoa powder, and a touch of toast. The taste brings in more of the same, though the tongue finds itself under the brutal jackboot of bitterness - bitterness from the hops, from the roast, from seemingly everywhere, congregating right on the tongue's neck, so to speak. It's a bit much, is what I'm saying. The body is a stolid medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a slightly drying finish. Overall, an okay oatmeal stout, but the bitterness does everything in, leaving me with an unpleasant taste in my mouth (quite literally).
