Served on-tap in a Shaker pint glass at Kardinal Hall (Charlottesville, VA).
A: Clear golden with 1/2-finger off-white head with decent retention and a couple thin lines of lacing.
S: Very pilsner and yeast heavy aroma with a lot of Belgian yeast esters including bubble gum, light phenol/clove, and fruitiness with solid crackery, slightly sweet pils malt base with very light herbal hop notes.
T: Flavor is solid plus across the board with crackery, lightly bready pils maltiness carrying this beer but the yeast character provides a lot of delicious accents with bubble gum, light banana and apple fruitiness, and light not-overwhelming clove/phenol note to add a little bitterness. Moderate bitterness at most. Really easy drinking flavor especially when cold.
M: Light bodied at most with moderate carbonation. Very drinkable light feel overall.
O: A really impressive beer that I hope they can continue to make -- I think it is using the Duvel yeast so hopefully that is not too difficult to maintain overtime as I think it is a very approachable yet interesting beer that a wide variety of drinkers would give a shot. Maybe rename it Iron Leaf Belgian Pale Ale and see what happens!
