On tap at Taft's Ale House, arrived in a nonic pint.
Appearance: Arrived filling the glass with a deep scorched-caramel hue, so clear I could virtually make out my fingerprint ridges on the other side of the glass. Formed a decently thick white head that slowly faded to a cap, which left patchy bits of lacing.
Smell: The aroma I could detect off this beer was relatively faint, though I must confess that Taft's has a kitchen which engages in quite a bit of meat cookery. What scent I could detect what light caramel and toffee.
Taste: The caramel and toffee manifest more boldly in the flavor, forming a solid backbone as this beer passes the lips. Atop said backbone comes a current of black earthen topsoil, much like the sort a farmer might describe as "chocolate cake soil". A hint of peat appears as the earth moves along, with nutty flavors filtering in along the edges - pecan and walnut.
Mouthfeel: Relatively light-bodied, with a fair amount of prickly carbonation, this lager feels alive in the mouth.
Overall: I know that this is listed on here as an American Amber. The brewery lists this as a Mexican lager, aka a Vienna, and I am submitting feedback to have that updated. As a Vienna lager goes, it's rather tasty.
