Embracing the notion that sour ale can also be a juice box, Taft's brewers look to blueberry and lemon to kick off their Fruit Tarts series.
Fruit Tarts (Blueberry Lemon Fruit Ale) gets going with an off purple, lavender-mauve pours. slightly cloudy in its appearance, the beer teases the senses with a bursting fragrance of booberry cereal, sourdough, citrus and a lighter notion of cider and white wine. Getting into the flavors, the early palate is juicy with radiant blueberry along with taffy, sourdough and light pastry crust.
Any sweeter impressions take a reserved seat heading into the middle palate. The bolder fruit flavors of blueberries are bold with the suggestions of honeysuckle, pastry and sweetness rounding out the fruit and giving it it's identity. Support from underlying lemon, lime, gooseberry, green apple and white grape allow for a tangier, sharper and drier taste to emerge and keep the session tart, dry and refreshing.
Finishing both juicy and dry is the beer's magic. Light, playful, fruit and refreshing, the beer has a quick afterglow of blueberry cereal, dough and wine spritzer for a blend that will keep beer lovers and fruit seltzer fans equally happy.
