First time reviewing one of local folk hero Mike's brews. 750ml bottle reportedly filled yesterday and poured into a large wine glass. Golden copper color with a smallish white head that slowly recedes. Coconut is the first scent to arrive, followed by hints of citrus and malt. Taste is definitely coconut juice, trace amounts of orange or mango and the lactose cream to smooth any hop bitterness. Feel is still fairly light with any of the 7.00% ABV masked by the creamy coconut and lactose. Never heard of coconut used in a cream ale but somehow it works and overall a very enjoyable pour.

750 ml bottle, no bottled on date. Released last week. "Double Cream Ale with Coconut & Lactose".
Poured into Mikerphone Brewing stemware.
A - Pours a crisp golden orange beer body, not too much unlike the appearance of an IPA, with one finger of frothy white head that stays awhile, leaving decent scattered spotty lacing. Appears well carbonated, with some chill haze present. Looks very nice.
S - Lots of natural earthy creamy coconut / coconut milk / huskiness / salty coconut water - all elements of authentic coconut sensations are present here. Lactose in the form of sweetened milk sugars, more or less accentuating the milky / creaminess of the coconut. Tropical, perhaps mild notes of citrus present? Very nice.
T - Taste follows the nose: smooth, milky, creamy, earthy, & husky authentic coconut flavors all make themselves known. Again, the lactose blends with the milky / creamy aspects of the coconut, further intensifying it's flavor. Very unique stuff; the authenticity on display here is most applaudable.
M - The feel is smooth, crisp, creamy. Medium-bodied and easy to drink, with a moderate abv.
Overall, a nice creation from Mikerphone. I could see some tweaking / different flavored versions of this stuff working out well in the future (ie Frontier Psychiatrist with Chocolate, or Frontier Psychiatrist with Coffee). Well done.

An interesting choice to add lactose to a typically light-bodied style in a cream ale. The coconut is subtle, with some on the nose and some on the finish, but in between, the flavor profile is a bit muddled. Tastes of creamed corn with hits of straw and red apple; there's some unwanted astringency on the middle of the tongue and in the finish, which is longer than desired given what it features. I'd call this a fun experiment, but not one of Mikerphone's more successful ones, and not a beer I would go back to.

It's a real coconut bomb. The base beer is very good. The coconut overlay is strong, but works.

750ml bottle filled and distributed a couple days prior, which I poured into a mug for drinking (per Beeradvocate's recommendation for glassware for a cream ale). Color is a orange golden color with an ample eggshell-colored head that slowly fades. Smell is predominantly coconut and a bit of sweetness. Taste is coconut but balanced well with the malts and hops used in the beer. Coconut is not an easy adjunct in my opinion, and I've had beers that tasted and smelled like a certain brand of suntan lotion. The beer really came alive and the flavors balanced well as it warmed up to around 50 degrees or so. Lactose was added to this beer, and I find lactose is something a lot of breweries struggle with by making their beers too sticky sweet. This beer gets it right, it's just enough sweetness to add notes to the total taste rather than overwhelm with sweetness. Mouth feel is above average considering lactose was added, as I did not experience the sticky (and off-putting) feel that some lactose added beers impart. Overall this is pretty good beer, not the best of the category of cream ales, but definitely unique and drinkable at the same time.

Look: Hazy orange/copper with a finger of head that dissipates quickly.
Smell: Roasty coconut.
Taste: Not very familiar with cream ales as a style, but this one tastes like coconut milk combined with a cup of dark roast coffee with half-and-half.
Feel: Smooth and creamy mouthfeel.
Overall: Odd beer. Drinks like coconut milk and even leaves a dry, coconutty feel on your lips afterwards. For what is, though, it's very interesting. Not sure if I'd have it again.
