Thanks to The_Game for this one, from the Rookies BIF #4. 12oz bottle poured into 14oz teku. Poured a the expected solid black color of the style, with less than 1/4 of tan head that had low retention and no lacing.
The front of the nose dominated by a very nice berry scent, with whiskey and wood providing most of the support. There was just a hint of malt in the very background.
Very similar on the tongue, with the actual beer flavor showing through a bit stronger, including a hint of roast on the finish.
The body was fairly typical for the style, perhaps a touch light, but I might be imagining that. The beer was smooth, and had a semi-sweet finish.
Drinkability was good, easy drinking for a 9% brew.
Overall, a pretty nice beer. Certainly worth trying if you get the chance.

Viscous black appearance with a extremely thin brown ring. Berry trio, bourbon, wood, and lots of chocolate syrup aromas. Taste has a striking balance of the berries and the chocolate, barrel is there but clearly resigned to the kid's table. What makes this work for me though, is the heat of the booze warming up the stars to make them more dynamic. Feels viscous, warm, velvet smooth, and almost leathery.

Tons of berries in the nose and the taste. I would say that the blackberries and raspberries are most prominent throughout but there is a slight touch of blueberries as well. Nice barrel; dry oak, leather. Leaves a lingering natural berry tartness behind on the lips.

Released 11/9/19; drank 11/28/19 @ the Yarchives.
Black appearance.
A violent pour yielded a nice, noisy dark tan head; almost no lace.
Raspberry syrup & dark chocolate flavors.
Medium mouthfeel.
This tasted like a chocolate & raspberry candy; 0 barrel or bourbon notes, and it was thin.
Not unpleasant, but not noteworthy either.
