A lot of maple. Very sweet. Little to no barrel.

Looks and smells considerably better than it tastes. The sediment looked like to be coffee grounds and that's exactly what this beer is. Drinking coffee that was made with a broken filter so a ton of grounds got in your cup. And that coffee is half maple syrup. Not very pleasant.

On draft at the OG taproom. Half pint glasses. Pours a dark black body, oily legs, half finger frothy mocha head, fair bit of retention and no lacing. Smell is distinct maple and coffee; even as it warms the vanilla isn't apparent. Milk chocolate, more maple and caramel sweetness. A fair bit of spicy heat from the barrel. The vanilla comes out a lot more on the finish, with a creamy, smooth marshmallowy sweetness that cuts into the roast coffee and maple syrup sweetness. The barrels don't give off much aside from a bit of spicy heat; it would have been nice to have some of that smooth chocolate fudge presence but I suspect that all of these adjuncts and even the base beer don't play so great with the barrel. That being said, this version was better than the standard barrel-aged version and certainly more enjoyable.
