look: 4.25 | smell: 4.75 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5
poured from a 750mL bottle into a snifter. pours an inky, oily black with a half finger of mocha brown head. foam settles into a thick collar around the glass as well as a few swirls in the middle. massive bourbon on the nose with chocolate and oak in the background. taste is bourbon soaked chocolate balls on the tongue with even more bourbon and oak and you inhale. again, bourbon and oak on the finish. full mouthfeel with the perfect amount of carbonation. sits in the mouth full and heavy and coats it as the beer is consumed. maybe it’s the fact that there are no adjuncts added here but i really enjoyed this. not the most complex barrel-aged imperial stout but a barrel showcase with a solid base imperial stout. glad i picked one up!
