7 Year Anniversary Beer - Chocolate

poured from a 500mL bottle into a snifter. pours black with minimal dark brown foam forming around the rim of the glass. pours a pitch black with minimal foam. some mocha swirls here and there. heavy cocoa powder on those nose and taste. slight barrel sting, if any. full mouthfeel. this is reminding me of Prop 18 in the fact that i thought i would love it (chocolate!) and it just didn’t / doesn’t pan out. it’s almost too much chocolate. in this case, not enough barrel and it’s really more swiss miss cocoa than milk chocolate to me. it’s still a solid beer but the first true let down of the anniversary set thus far. that said, it’s still a very drinkable imperial stout ale but the advertised chocolate barrel-aged imperial stouts seem too never land for me.
