SAmpling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. The beer is a gift from my brother and has been in my cellar for about 8 months, buried on the shelf.
Beer pours a bright clear copper color with a frothy eggshell white head of 3.5 cm. This foam fades quickly leaving windowpane lattice on my glass and some wispy islands and a sturdy edge layer.
The aroma is still bold hops with a mix of pine sap and fresh cut grass. Some light caramel and biscuity malt notes are in the background, but this is a hop forward beer and not a lot of citrus, which feels more olde school IPA than most newer entries into the field.
The first sip reveals a medium to light body with fine tingly carbonation. The beer drinks very easy and the mouthfeel is a little thin, but that just makes the beer drink even faster.
The flavor is similar to the nose with hop forward notes. I get pine sap and grass with a bit of astringent aspirin note on the finish. I also get some interesting roasted caramel flavor for a second right before the beer leaves my mouth. A lingering hop bite follows. This beer is reminding me of IPAs from yesteryear. No citrusy hops, a clear beer, and bitterness. Nice change of pace, but I fear it missed the market. Wonder how well the beer did in its locale?
I like this one and would drink it again for some crisp hop bite. Nice beer.
