From d'are website and such...
10.5% ABV
40 IBU
This approachable Russian Imperial Stout is brewed with with roasted barley, oats and turbinado sugar to achieve a robust, yet balanced ale. Notes of espresso and dark fruit compliment the full bodied malt profile
From ma'mind and such...
mr. crowler (dah dah dah) what went down in your head, oh, mister crowler, did you talk with medvedev...
eyes...
oh man, one of the chocolatey looking heads I have seen in some time, pretty fizzy on the crowler pop even though it has been sitting stationary for 48 hours since arrival (no stork incidentally), the head, sadly, had somewhere else to be apparently and departs without me even getting a name, all that is left is an o-ring on the edge of the glass, this is an event horizon, I literally held my fruit phone flashlight up to it... and total eclipse (of the heart), lacing and legs are nice, this is on point for the style
nose...
the roasted notes are marvelous, this smells like a cooled down premium coffee sans any milk or sugar messing up the pureness, I can practically taste the foam coffee cap with my nose, the coffee tone is an invading army, and I am mowed down gladly by the aroma, in the aftermath of this destruction I smell hints of molasses... but the roast is what rules the roost here, and I love it
taste etc...
looks like a duck, smells like a duck, sort of drinks like a duck... first off the weight is very light, I expect/want a bit more in the body department for this style, this is definitely one of those styles that needs some junk in the trunk, the carbonation is low which is good (smooths it out), the flavor matches the nose but is not quite as assertive, the notes are all there and reveal themselves further as you sip this one down, there is a good balance of bitterness and sweetness, I am digging on the roast flavor although I have had better (but not many), weight aside (which is seriously distracting) the flavor blossoms more and more, the bitterness kind of fades out in the aftertaste and the sweetness sweeps in, best to swish some, let it sit and wait a while on the next sip for the best investment in this, the ABV is well hidden (absent even in the flavor) here which is a testament to the craft
verdict?
damn. with a little tweaking this could be a total beast, as is damn tasty and almost hits all the points in all categories. good stuff, very drinkable for the style.
