Another Slice, Anyone?

looks like they do a few different pie versions of this, but it was pumpkin when we were in, which must be the original. its a cool beer in theory, but the execution was easily the worst of the three beers i had here, to me it had some skunky character, seemed a little underdone in terms of the ferment, and really didnt hit as a squash beer for me, could just be a spiced thing. it arrives at the table a slightly stagnant and faintly murky amber color with just a little layer of bubbles on top, less lively than id like to see which was true of others here too. nose has a sort of light struck thing to me, not real gross, but its there, and with some generic grain sweetness and muddled spice complex, this lacks the objective quality i demand for this style to resonate. some subtle cinnamon, honey, and toffee notes, the malt and the spices do go well together, but i dont get real pumpkin if its in this either in aroma or flavor, and the whole thing feels a little thin, like its missing something, perhaps exactly that. light vanilla, maple, and clove in the taste, maybe nutmeg too, its not overdone on the spices which is a plus, but it does carry some sweetness through the finish. the ferment seems stressed, there is an almost mildew note along with some metallic back end, not overt, but still enough to turn me off a bit and make this seem a little homebrew-esque in a bad way. slight bummer here, i loved the place and the other beers i had were good, but this one needs some refinement to say the least...
