i am one of those guys in the camp that believes firmly in everything allagash does, no matter what it is. i just think they have earned the credit and respect, and this is one of their less common ones, but up to their high standard in most respects. im not sure i would call this a belgian pale, as i got some funk from it on the back end, and less of the typical belgian yeast aspects. that said, its pretty awesome beer, really pale in color, probably belgian pils malt dominated, but with a lot of other things going on. the yeast is definitely unique, mild spice, and some cool field flavors in there with the hops. it also sure tasted to me like there was some mild brett, likely intentional, rounding this out. rustic to say the least. its cool to use such a light and clean and simple grain base in a beer thats built up to be rather complex. its a rare combination, and its executed really well here. drinkable as they come, and more hoppy than i think its getting credit for here in the reviews. european maybe, but well rounded too. i could drink ten of these, and lately thats one of the highest measures of good ale in my book.

Served at Foundry, Northampton, MA. Great as usual.
A- From the tap with a clarified golden blonde body and a creamy white cap. Retention is pretty good and lacing is plentiful all around the glass.
S- Blonde in the way that it is laid back and smooth although that doesn't mean it lacks aroma. Herbal and spicy hops give way to pale malt tones.
T- Smooth and very crisp. The hops are moderately strong but not overbearing donating spicy, light orange, herbal tea and floral tones. A hint of yeast bread and medium spicy fruity tones along with biscuit, crackery and lightly sweet grains.
MF- Very much on the light side with a frothy and foamy texture keeping it from being thin. Effervescence with carbonation on the high side. Light bitterness.
Spicy yeast and a moderate hop profile to balance it out. Very laid back allowing it to go down very smoothly harboring some classic Allagash house yeasttones.

At the end of the day, the style is just a blonde ale, but this is as good of a blonde ale as I've had
