Aventureux (meaning Adventurous in French) is our Belgian Style Stout aged in Whiskey barrels. This beer is brewed with German Pale Ale malt, Chocolate malt, roasted barley, Black malt, oats, and dark caramelized candi sugar, then aged for 6 months in Rye Whiskey barrels from our neighbors at New England Distilling. The toffee, chocolate and vanilla nose is followed by a smooth bitter chocolate aroma and flavors of whiskey and wood. The finish is dry, roasted and warming.

On draft
Very dark, almost black but some light gets through the corners of the glass. Big whiskey aroma. Vanilla, oak. Taste is toasty. Burnt marshmallow, toffee. Medium bodied.

On tap at South Philadelphia Tap Room for Extreme Beer Brunch, capping Philly Beer Week 2016.
Nice foamy head with abundant lacing.
Very weak smell of chestnut, malt, roastiness and coffee.
The taste has caramel, toffee, nuttiness and a bit of wood, but no rye whiskey. It's mostly malt and sugar.
The mouthfeel is creamy but on the thin side, and overall Aventureux is a disappointing experiment, even more so considering the six months this beer spent in whiskey barrels.

Effervescent, bright, light acidity vinegary, dark fruit, smoky malty come to mind from the first taste. Excellent and very different stout.
