Definitely more of a Belgian Pale Ale or Saison than APA.

A: This poured an opaque gold with thick white head.
S: It smelled like grassy hops and spicy Belgian yeast with some coriander and clove.
T: It tasted like grassy hops and spicy Belgian yeast with some coriander and clove.
M: It was thick with smooth natural carbonation. Nice full body.
D: This was a nice beer with fairly simple but enjoyable scent and taste. The body was great and the finish was smooth, so it was easy to drink. Probably not for aging. Good but not great.

Appearance: As I untwisted the cage, I could feel the pressure building and feared it would be a gusher; to my surprise, while the cork exploded out of the bottle, there was no gushing action; pours cloudy and copper colored, with a massive head; excellent stickage and plenty of lacing clings

Smell: Herbaceous and spicy, with an orange marmalade and clove character

Taste: Crumpet with orange marmalade and clove from the outset, with the bitterness from the orange building through the middle; very dry, through the finish, with the peppery clove character becoming more pungent

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: A really interesting style-bender; it took me a few sips to wrap my head around as this should really be in the Saison category, as it is a far cry from an APA; the yeast produces some powerful flavors (Allagash) and when combined with the hops (Deschutes) you get a beer whose flavor profile I will not soon forget

Notes

The beer pours a nice white head that dissipates at a moderate pace. It has a nice foamy and bubbly texture that looks very nice. The beer itself is a clear pale gold color that is nice to look at and has a good solid texture to it does not really impress or look interesting.

The smell is very saison like but is still good and unique for the pale ale style that the beer claims to be. The smell has a nice bitter but slightly tangy orange rind hop note that is balanced out a sweet pale malt smell and a bread like yeast note that doesn’t quite overwhelm the hop bit mixes with it very well to a strong earthy note.

The taste contains similar notes found in the smell but is actually a bit hoppier. The hop notes seem to be the most noticeable note there and comes off as an orange rind taste. The yeast still imparts some of bread and spiciness that you would normally find in a saison while the malts are a bit absent in the taste but come off as sweet when they do pop up.

The feel is good. It has a medium body that is pretty smooth and lots of biting carbonation. The carbonation definitely gives it a more lighter feel than it would and gives it a dry finish at the end.

Overall, this was a pretty good collaboration. Allagash’s trademark yeast notes give Deschutes’s use of hops a nice spiceness that really adds something. You can definitely see the various style from the two breweries mixing with each other to create something good.

Savor bottle split among friends, into a teku for me. Gold color with big white head, great lacing. Beautiful beer. Estery and malty nose with some spicy yeast, really nice. Flavor is more malt and mild yeast driven flavors, much like a Biere de Garde. Mouthfeel is really soft and fluffy as well, medium high carb that adds a ton. Probably going to get drier and more carbed over time. Get it if you can.

Hazy golden yellowish orange body with a soapy white head. Sweet orange candy, grapefruit zest, herbal notes, a hint of coriander. Sweet and fruity. Belgian yeast / IPA character. Medium bodied. Solid.

Deschutes and Allagash collab from Savor. Had a chance to try thanks to Travis at Ocean Odyssey. As expected with Allagash...beer came across with a good house yeast that brought this PA into a more farmhouse type expression. Really enjoyed it. Nice diversion from the PAs and IPAs we were drinking that afternoon.
