Ale brewed with Lambrusco grape must, Angelica root and bitter orange aged in bourbon barrels. This rich, bourbon barrel-aged red ale, inspired by the “Boulevardier” cocktail, balances notes of vanilla, red wine, and caramel.

Reddish, amber color. Medium-sized, white head. Vanilla, bourbon, fruits, and some funky notes in the aroma. Balanced and rich taste with a light sweetness.

Pours brilliantly clear, reddish copper (SRM 16-18). Three inches of loose, pinkish, off-white head suddenly collapses after about two minutes. A thick blanket and patchy lace form within an Engelszell teku glass.
The aroma is surprisingly mild, with sweet grapes and caramel.
The flavor is similarly mild. Fruity sweetness is light, with little to no bitterness. There is no real oak, but there are faint notes of barrel. The finish is slight and almost absent.
It has a medium to full body and a slick, smooth, silky texture. Alcohol is well below expectations.
While this is a pleasant, relaxed beer, it lacks the special quality I had expected.

Bottled 08 /11/22.
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a nearly two inch white head over a slightly hazy amber body with sticky lacing.
Complex nose of fruit (cherries, red grape, orange), malt, slight vanilla, slight bourbon, and very slight oak.
Taste is as complex as the nose with the vanilla coming forward and red grape aroma fading to more like a rosé in flavor. Slightly bourbon soaked orange and cherry flavors are prevalent in the middle after it warms a bit with a very tasty, semi-sweet pre-finish. Finish has slight flavors of all the aforementioned being taken over by a dry, oaky finish.
Nice feel with medium carbonation.
Overall, a very deliciously complex offering and would definitely have another!

Appearance: Pours a hazed (with suspended particles) amber-tan body with a smallish, albeit lasting, near white head.
Smell: A restrained though persistent red grape must fruitiness amidst sweetish malts cut by curt barrel tannins, peppery and earthy phenolics, sharp dried bitter orange, black licorice and wafting boozy bourbon.
Taste: A flush of vanilla-caramel-brown sugar crème, toasted malts scantly nutty and then a big pop of bourbon studded with notes of Belgian yeast, dried bitter orange, licorice amongst an everpresent rose jelly fruitiness. A little bit sweetish, fruity, spicy, warming.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Moderate carbonation.
Overall: It's alright, it's just a very busy beer!

12 ounce bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled 8/11/22, had 11/1/22.
Pours a bright, reddish orange, mostly clear, with a one inch foamy head with decent retention and some foamy lacing. Aromas of grapes, malt, wheat, light caramel and bourbon, vanilla as it warms. Has a somewhat herbal aroma. Flavors of bourbon, malt, grapes, some bitter orange and caramel, vanilla, again, as it warms. Has an herbal taste. Smooth, a good lighter medium body, well carbonated.
Has a very good aroma with the usual (for Allagash) light barrels. The flavor is good, but lacks intensity. Worth a try.

Color seems to be more Citrine than Red. That probably doesn't.t mean much.
Notes of orange citrus. Somewhat dry and acidic.
Not bad but I'm not a fan. In fact, the more I drank, the less I liked.

Picked up a single from the Appalachian Vintner in Asheville 10-28-22 for $5.22. Bottled 8-11-22; consumed 3-29-22. Cold stored since purchase.
Beer poured reddish-brown with a nice white head with the original pour.
Nose has hints of light fruits and a touch of vanilla.
Taste is a larger caramel malt base that gives way to a notes of sourness brought by the grapes, a touch of pear and apple that give way to a very light touch of vanilla and bourbon. Finishes balanced.
Mouthfeel is light bodied and refreshing which is odd given the type of beer this is.
Overall a fun beer to try, definitely out of the mainstream. It almost comes across as a Belgian style beer given how light it is.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Medium golden amber pour with ruby highlights. A little sediment at the end of the pour. Big foamy white head leaves great lacing.
S: Orange peel and spice. Coriander and citrus.
T.F: Semi-sweet... vanilla and bourbon first. Followed by orange/citrus and spice. An odd assortment of flavors. A bit of grape and wine... oak and more spice mixed with wheat and yeast. Medium bodied... sticky on the tongue.
O: An odd brew... and I'm not sure that the flavors meld all that well. Interesting but not a favorite.
