Who would think I’d find an Allgash beer in Chicago that I can’t find at home in Massachusetts, significantly closer to the brewery? Either way, I’m happy to have stumbled upon this one and naturally splurged for it. Let’s pop it open and see what it’s all about
Pours an opaque ruby red with a finger of pink tinted white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
The nose presents a rather even balance of fruit and funk which is much appreciated. I’m picking up on aromas of tart cherry, brown sugar, wet hay, dark bread, jammy strawberry, tart raspberry, straw, and light lemon yogurt
It trends more fruity in taste, but with a nice tartness to back it up. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting tart raspberry, lemon juice, wet hay, stone, sharp oak, red wine vinegar, and black cherry. The swallow brings notes of cherry pie, tart raspberry, lemon juice, graham cracker, sharp oak, vanilla, and red wine vinegar
A medium body pairs with aggressive carbonation, resulting in a puckering beer. Finishes slightly sticky but dries out over time
If you want a really tart one from Allagash, this is what you’re looking for. Still has a pretty nice balance too

Absolutely wonderful and funky fruited sour.
Gorgeous reddish hue, slightly hazy body.
Exceptionally tart and lightly funky nose. Vinegar, raspberry, cherry skins, earth, cheese, leather, rose hips.
Taste is similar. It’s moderately sour for the style, and lightly funky. Notes of oak, cherry skins, vinegar, vanilla, tannins, rose petals, hay.
