Moving right along with the bottles I picked up at Allagash during their cellar tour, we have a cellar exclusive. Viogner grapes tend to feature in some really good Wild Ales, so I’m sure this one won’t be any different. Plus aging in their clay “egg” fermenter should add some interesting notes as well. Let’s pop it open and find out what it’s all about
Pours a slightly cloudy yellow gold with 2 fingers of white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
The funk in the nose is very earthy and rustic, but the grape acidity still shines through. I’m picking up on aromas of lemon yogurt, earthy wheat, wet hay, petrichor, tannic white wine, crabapple, and light honey
It’s quite similar in taste, with just a bit more focus on the grape. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting tannic white wine, apple skin, wildflower honey, grape must, lemon zest, bready malt, earthy wheat, and wet hay. The swallow brings notes of tannic white wine, grape must, apple skin, earthy wheat, petrichor, lemon yogurt, light white pepper, and honey
A medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a tangy and sparkling beer. Finishes a tad sticky but the funk dries it out
This is a nice, somewhat gentle approach to the usual Allgash game. I tend to prefer a tad more acidity to it but this is still good

Pours a crystal clear golden with white head. Nice sparkling carb. Gentle aroma of funk, blue cheese, white grape. This is definitely grape forward. I get a lot of that white grape, kind welch's grape character up front. It's certainly softer and more rounded than other Allagash spon offerings as I find beers like Coolship Resurgam to sometimes be a bit too sharp. Maybe a touch of heat on the back end. It's a nice fruited spon beer.
