A living room filled by the warmth of a fire, a table packed with food, the cushions of a comfy couch—there are so many great spots to gather. And we have a rich, bourbon barrel-aged stout to pair with all of them. Gatherwell is a full-bodied and, dare we say, decadent stout aged in bourbon barrels for notes of cocoa, vanilla, oak, and a hint of bourbon.

Pours opaque dark brown with a full finger foamy khaki collar that faded fairly quickly leaving a good amount of lacing in its wake. The nose with notes of caramel and barrel aging are mirrored well in the flavors that linger well. Creamy and medium bodied with no hint of the 11% ABV. An easy drinker…well done! I wouldn’t hesitate to reach for this one again.

12 oz bottle from Appalachian Vintner in Asheville, NC ($5.22). A bottling date of 1 January 2024 is stamped on the label.
Appearance. Typical dark reddish-brown body with an average beige head.
There's a lot more bourbon and woody whisky barrel notes in the aroma than in the flavor. Smooth body with well hidden ABV and light carbonation.

12 ounce bottle, bottled on 01/10/24, thanks to Brutaltruth for this one! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. I like the aroma, the brew smells like vanilla, bourbon, dark chocolate, roasted malt and some oakiness. For the most part the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some graininess and a bit of smoke noticeable. Nice amount of barrel character but wish it was a little stronger. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a little smooth and slick with a moderate amount of carbonation. The 11% ABV is hidden well. I thought this was good, maybe I should have drank it a little fresher since I think the barrel would have had more of a punch. But it is tasty and would like to try this again in the future!

From a 12 oz. bottle dated 12/04/25. Sampled Feb 16, 2026.
It pours near black with a foamy tan head.
Loads of malt sensations on the nose like caramel, oats, cereal grain, with a more subtle floral hop note. The bourbon barrel aging is not immediate evident but after a few sips, it introduces itself.
Full mouthfeel.
The taste is rich and sweet, alive with roasted dark malts, which is something I enjoy in a beer. The barrel aging and booziness doesn't take hold until I am a few sips in. Mildly bitter, despite its high IBU. The malts are so forward, the hop bitterness is edged out. This was a fine tasting experience.

Taste is the same. Bitter, dry.
Feel is richer than expected.

This is a fantastic barrel aged imperial stout. It has the look, smell and taste of Weyerbacher “Tiny “ but with the unmistakable BBA flavor! Well done Allagash!

12 ounce bottle - $5.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Bottled On 05/08/24.
Appearance: Pours an effectively black body with a slowly surging, bubbly, tan-hued head. A big, webby splattering of lacing on the way down.
Smell: Softly roasty nose, dark bitterish chocolate, tenuous prune dark fruitiness, creamy barley with smooth, subtle bourbon barrel with a very faint quasi smokiness to its char quality.
Taste: Gentle, light sweetness amidst the bitterish roasted malts, dark chocolate and charry barrel tones. Earthy, spicy/peppery with the dark fruitiness of wholesome, timely prunes. Again, there's a subtle, sustained smokiness. Light vanilla. Slowly, calmly turns bitterish, more smoky and warming as the chill of the refrigerator departs.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Somewhat subdued carbonation. Lightly creamy, smooth mouthfeel.
Overall: Fairly solid. A sensibly-sized twelve ounce bottle for a bigger beer is always appreciated.

The pour is jet black with a tan head of foam. The taste is bourbon barrel oak, dark chocolate, plum, burnt toast, tobacco char, & vanilla. Moreover, the 11% abv is well hidden. Cheers! A-

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via a friend from work. Cheers Chris!
This solid imperial pours pitch black with brown highlights and a nice head of
khaki foam that settles to a thick ring, thin dusty layer, and sports some faint lacing.
Nose of bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, and dark roasted malts. Flavors surpass
the nose with dark chocolate, bourbon, faint oak, cola, vanilla, and dark roast.
Mouth feel is medium full leaning towards full, smooth, rich, lightly warming,
light carbonation, and finishing with a lightly bitter malt and subtle bourbon
finish that is subtly dry.
Overall, a great straight up stout with light mellow barrel aging.
Overall, a stunner!
Cheers

L: Pours a deep oily black, almost no head at all
S: Chocolate, coffee, and vanilla, with a bourbon whiskey alcohol bite
T: Mostly bourbon whiskey, black coffee, there's some stout malty flavors in there but you have to look for them
F: Dry, you definitely detect the 11% abv
O: Not my favorite Allagash, nor my favorite Imperial Stout, but still a decent, if decadent, offering. If you're here just for typical stout flavors I'd try different beer.
