A dark and deeply drinkable delight. Sip after sip, you'll find balanced notes of cocoa and coffee from roasted malts, with a rich undercurrent of dark cherry tying it all together.

Fills a Pretentious Glass Company Juicy Pint opaque dark brown with a very dark mahogany highlight. A beige head reaches two inches before quickly turning rocky and slowly compressing. Small patches of sticky lace and columns of fine carbonation can be seen within.

The aroma opens with lightly charred malt, ground coffee, and dark chocolate. Cherries are mild and barely noticeable.

The flavor has a nice, mildly roasted malt on entry that unfortunately turns astringent middle to end. The finish is long and unpleasant, while the cherries remain barely noticeable.

It has a medium body and no hint of alcohol. The texture is similar to crushed velour, while the carbonation is fine and fizzy.

This beer is ok, nothing special. In my opinion, it's more like a Czech Dark Lager than a European Dark Lager.

Pours dark. Tan foam. Chocolate aroma. Sour cherry body. Light sweet chocolate finish. Not bad. Kind of basic. Could be better.

16oz can, tulip, canned 6/18/25.

Very much cola colored with a stack of cappuccino head.

There are even cherry cola aromas along with nutty malt. The cherry is sweet and rises above the rest.

Cola and cherry though completely balanced by drying cocoa, roast, and bitterness. The finish maintains a cherry twang, an ever so slight sourness that vanishes like the green flash at sunset. There are some vegetal and herbal hops in the finish as well.

Medium-light body with carbonation the same and a drying finish.

Allagash has delivered a well crafted lager that fulfills the promise of the name with simplicity, subtlety, and layers of flavor.

There's a lot to this lager. A variety of malts, a couple hop varieties, and of course natural cherry flavor. The presentation is nice. Dark brown with a light tan silky cap of foam which leaves lacing. There's a lovely evolution of taste in every sip--pilsner biscuit, cherries for sure, with an extended chocolate/cocoa/roasted finish that has staying power. Well-brewed. Next time I'm trying this lager with a turkey dinner...heaven!

Canned on: 6-18-25

A - Pours the color of a Cherry Coke with dense, creamy caramel foam.

S - Toasted cocoa/caramel malt with some earthiness with a hint of cherry.

T - Light toasted cocoa/caramel with a little bit of char to it and finishes quite balanced.

M - Medium body with prickly carbonation and a little thin around the edges.

O - Glad to have tried this one. (One is enough.)

16 oz can. Pours brown with tall, long-lasting, foamy, beige head and nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted malt, grassy hops and some coffee. Body is medium and slightly crisp. Taste of toasted malt, coffee, herbal hops and cherries. Finish is long and dry. Good brew.

Allagash Brewing Co. "Dark Lager with Cherries"
16 fl. oz. can "PACKAGED 06/18/25 09:32 8962"
$4.25 @ Wegmans, King of Prussia, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Well this seems pretty simple, just a dark lager with cherries. Are they real? Ahh, unfortunately the label reads "Lager Brewed With Natural Flavors". It's very dark but I can see within the stream pouring from the can that it's clear. It appears black in the full glass beneath a thumb's width of dark khaki colored foam. The aroma is like roasty coffee with just a hint of cherry. On to the taste... it tastes like roasty coffee with just a hint of cherry. I'm not sure I need the cherry as the base beer is pretty good itself. The cherry finishes it up though and then lingers. It reminds me a little bit of a Frank’s Black Cherry Wishniak soda pop. The more you drink the more the cherry builds on your palate and becomes clearer. A stiff bitterness balances it and it finishes dry, roasty, chocolatey, and cherry-like. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp. I'm going to call this OK. I think it would be much better without the cherry, or perhaps with more cherry, but as it is it's kind of muddled and perhaps a bit too roasty.

It looks black in the glass but it's more like a deep cola color with ruby red highlights. Huge foamy tan head that falls to a substantial ring and a huge island. Good bit of bubble cling to the glass. Looks pretty nice.

Holy roasted malt, Batman. Very strong roast smell - coffee, chocolate, and very slight char. The cherry is there but it's pretty well hidden.

The cherry continues as an undertone in the taste. This is pretty malt-forward with coffee and bittersweet chocolate with just a bit of acridness...acridity...OK...a little woody char. It kinda has a little Dr. Pepper vibe to it but i think it could use a tad more cherry. There's a peppery spice on the finish.

This is dry. The char and coffee linger and add to the dryness. Is fairly thin-bodied. It's light but far from refreshing. Pretty decently and finely carbonated which gives it a noticeable tingling sensation.

Overall it's a decent beer. The malts are great but it could use more cherry and maybe a little sweetness to balance those malts a little better
