"Allagash Fluxus is a beer that changes every year. It is also one of our Tribute Series beers. These are beers that benefit some of our favorite local causes." Brewed in the style of an American Porter. Available in 25.4 oz. bottles and in limited release draft. Annual release with rotating styles and ingredients. 2013 is a Porter brewed with blood oranges.
Poured from a 25.4 oz. bottle to a snifter glass. Served above 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
(Appearance) Pours a crisp foamy head of a pale brown color over a very dark brown, near black body. Retention is above average and lacing is moderate and patchy. 3.75
(Smell) Profound orange aroma with ample tartness and citrus acid forward, merged with notes of chocolate malt, lightly toasted caramel grain and delicately roasted barley. Moderate sweetness. Potency is moderate. 4
(Taste) The orange aroma doesn't generate much in the flavor, unfortunately. Soft orange tartness up front, merged with toasted chocolate and barley, where the malt profile dominates the flavor and the orange is just accent. Finishes on a note of moderately roasted grains, chocolate and caramel grain for a robust porter flavor. 3.75
(Mouthfeel) The texture is silky, slick, lightly chewy and moderately dry. Carbonation is full, generating a medium frothiness and a fully crisp finish. Body is medium+ for the style and medium/heavy overall. Balance is lightly earthy bitter over sweet. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 3.75
(Overall) This is quite an interesting porter but I greatly enjoy it. The oranges do not do as much for the flavor as they suggest in the tart aroma, although a little bit of citrus flavor is notable in the flavor, and the feel of this beer is bright and crisp, bringing to mind a beer that is conflicted between two distinct styles but manages to find common ground with both. Finally, as I found this porter to drink a bit heavier than the average sample, I was pleasantly surprised to find it at under 7% ABV, making for a very enjoyable and true-to-style porter. 3.75

Look: Black with fizzy, long-lasting, off-white head. Not much lacing.
Smell: Roasty with citrus/orange.
Taste: Roasty, a bit of cocoa, as well as the blood orange. Definitely tastes like a porter. Slight bitter aftertaste.
Feel: Fizzy. A bit abrasive, medium body,
Overall: An interesting brew. I'm not sure I would seek it out again, but not bad.

Rich brown with Ruby hues. Biscuit straightaway, some chalky cocoa. Interesting. Sweet malt upfront but finishes like a fleeting porter. Mmm
