On-tap at Local Option. Served in a tulip.
A - White foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and a few specks of lace. Lightly hazed golden body.
S - Peppery yeast, but not excessively spicy. Crackery and bready malt backdrop, with a kiss of stone fruits in the periphery.
T - The taste is a tiny bit sweeter, with more pale malt and stone fruit flavors and some fruity esters from the yeast. Still quite dry and crackery, with a mild dose of hop bitterness late. I like the yeast strain here as it's not overpowering; good balance and malt and yeast.
M - Higher, zesty carbonation that isn't inappropriate for the style but is a bit harsh for my tastes. Medium bodied, with a dry finish, and a touch grainy in texture.
D - Is it very special? Not so much. However, it's a well crafted and competently executed. Reminds me of a bigger version of Allagash's House Beer. Would drink this again if it was more widely available.
