I'll preface this review by saying that I typically am not a huge fan of black IPAs or related beers. This beer got me to rethink that.
Pours dark black with a solid, two finger head. Aroma is massive, resiny, piney hops. Perhaps a faint roasty quality there too. The resinous hop character steals the show on the first sip. With each following sip however, I pick up more and more of the roasted, dark malt qualities: bitter coffee, dark chocolate. Overall, this was a beer with incredible balance between hops and malt. Lupulin is becoming one of my favorite new MN breweries.

Imperial black IPA dry hopped with Simcoe. The hop nose and flavor are great. Does not drink or feel like 9% at all. Very well done for a style that is hit or miss with me.
