Found this 750ML bottle hanging around in the distant northern suburbs, near Grise Fiord, where I sometimes help butcher elk. Split with my wife.
Black. I’m waiting for the big stout that isn’t. Carbonation is pretty low, as the gas escaping the bottle Hab indicated. Nose is unique, but appealing - I seem to get Simcoe. Hoppy, earthy, sweet, really nice. I’d almost rather sniff than drink. Barrel is MIA.
West Coast Stout - Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged is the rare new bottled local that didn’t make me want to kick the nearest dog for buying it. Nice hoppy kick in my canines, followed by a mild spiciness I assume is imparted by the barrel, mild bitterness, dry roast that runs through the finish.
It doesn’t suck! The bar is low, sadly. I’d have liked more barrel presence, but still a good, solid brew.
