Marzen Style Lager
Date: Lupulin Brewing
Going back to Marzens tonight for the tasting. First beer from this brewery. I poured it into a German dimple mug, and the temp was around 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy and airy light tan head with excellent retention. The slow dissipation left little lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 15, dark amber with rusty orange highlights.
I smell toasted bread, caramel, a hint of floral, some earthiness, and malty sweetness. The aromas are typical for this style; the sweetness is a bit more pronounced. I also detect a well-cooked oatmeal aroma, like the beer was a touch overboiled. I am not sure if that is the correct term for what I am sensing.
I tasted toasted bread, lots of caramel, malty sweetness, floral, cooked cereal, and earthiness. As I continue sipping the beer, I get a lovely hop profile. The best thing is the hops are balanced with beer; furthermore, it is a touch sweeter than I would prefer.
The mouthfeel is carbonated and slightly astringent.
The body is medium, medium carbonation, and the finish lingers somewhat.
The beer is on point with its style. Overall, it is above average and drinkable. Good beer from Lupulin; I would like to discover what else they offer.

Poured from a pint can into a Nonic.
Pours almost clear and copper. A nice foamy/creamy head. Retention is limited but the lacing is good.
Aromas of caramel malt, bread, and bread dough. Faint grassy hops.
Sweet lightly toasted malts on the tip of the tongue. A bit of zesty yeast and fruitiness in midstream. Nice measured grassy and earthy bitterness on the back end. A little sweet but still tasty.
Well carbonated and a bit drying at the finish. Excellent body and backbone. This one has some zip and real drinkability.
It's a bit sweet for the style, but it delivers some great flavors.
