YES. Lupulin teamed up with one of my favorite southern brewers (and favorite brewers period) - SoPro. Canned 5/4/20, spankin' fresh, and poured into a Parish Teku (now that would be a collaboration!!!!)
Most milky sweet color I've ever seen a Lupulin IPA have, it's so thick and creamy, with a tall white head of 2 fingers, receding to 1/2 finger leaving lace destroying the glass.
There is such thing as southern haze bomb IPA and this brings exactly that in the aroma. It's so clean and citrusy, yet juicy and murky, and full of grapefruit, tangerine, mangoes, and pineapple milkshake. When a beer gives me goosebumps, I give it a 5 in that category. I haven't smelled this in any other Lupulin beer so this would have to be SoPro's doing.
Flavor brings the juice and mango of SoPro's recipes, and then the harshness and minerality of Lupulin's beers. It's really tough because I'd extract and toss out the latter half if I could - but I can't. The juicy ripe mango and pineapple smoothie stuff - that's the southern juice bomb part of it. The rest of it is our harsh midwestern stout water extracting and magnifying bitterness and mineral from the hops and overall profile, as if it were Burtonized. Our water table is not meant for it. Other notes : mango, peach, peach smoothie, pine, grass, hard water.
Feel is creamy and smooth but then harsh and hard water-like; again it's a double edged sword. Some resin and pine on the finish.
Overall, when I went to visit the south my overall opinion was that their beers sucked and then within that month of being there I absolutely fell head over heels with breweries like SoPro and Parish that just absolutely KILLED it on the IPA front. And then I get back up here and I cannot find a single thing to satisfy me and that's because we don't do it right up here. This got me closer for a minute, and then ripped it away. It's still tasty, but so bipolar that I'm not sure I'd go back for a 2nd 4-banger.
Edit : The lactose doesn't hold up as well in subsequent cans a month later. It comes off a bit artificial now, with a sweetener aftertaste. Score adjusted in taste profile. Aroma is still 100% So Pro and 100% a fiver though.
Price paid : $13.99 / 4 pack
