12oz canned 7-25-18
1/4" tan head on black down to mahogany Imperial Stout. Short retention and rests as a cap, no lace.
Coffee and vanilla are apparent in the nose along with the typical roasted malts here.
Boozy, coffee is dominant...heat from the ancho chile is very late and mild. I can't find the vanilla or chocolate. Some dark fruit. Nice flavors overall though, everything is well integrated and smooth for such a big/young beer. No hop character apparent which is fine here.
Full bodied but not as thick as expected from an Imperial Stout, creamy mouthfeel. A little hot @ 12.1%, decent length on the finish.
Enjoyable and full of flavor.

Purchased a single for $5 at my favorite Midwest City, OK store.

It was pure happenstance I ended up with this beer; after purchasing other beers, I was still talking to the gal at the register, when the other dude working there mentioned having a new single imperial stout. I took one look at it and said, “I’ll take it.”

Look - perfect, opaque, near black, with a 1 finger head that quickly dissipated, leaving a ring and minimal lacing. Outstanding.

Smell - coffee, lager, black pepper…intriguing, yet not perfect. Certainly not what I was expecting considering my favorite style is barrel aged American imperial stouts, though it got my attention.

Taste - hell yeah. Sweet and peppery, chocolatey, coffee, delicious. I didn’t particularly care for Old Rasputin, which was the first Russian imperial stout I tried; somehow, this is reminiscent of that, yet done in a way that leaves the taste buds begging for more. I think maybe Old Resputin had either too much hops or too much of something else earthy and bitter, whereas this beer leans on the heavier, maltier, sweeter side. Outstanding.

Mouthfeel - perfectly carbonated, syrupy…delicious.

Overall - so thankful the homie at Midwest Wine and Spirits mentioned that they had a new imperial stout on their singles rack. I love this. I will be back there tomorrow to get more.

A: Pitch-black pour with a tall and very densely-bubbled head. Head retention is top notch. Little to no lacing left behind.

S: Chocolate and chili pepper flesh is immediately apparent. Hints of coffee in there too.

T: Bitter coffee right up front that turns into sweet chocolate/vanilla. Vegetal pepper in there too. Tiny bit of heat on the back end but it's largely swallowed up by the strength of the beer and the flavor additions. Lingering spice and coffee/chocolate combination is quite nice.

M: Heavy and thick. Nearly syrupy. On the sweeter side for sure.

O: Really nice version of this stout. A little more coffee and/or chili pepper would have balanced it perfectly, IMO. Still excellent as-is.

Black with a reddish hue and a thick head the color of coconut fiber. Smells almost exactly as advertised—black coffee, cocoa, and a hint of vanilla. The taste is similar with a hint of chile flavor and very little heat, which is fine, though the coffee makes it come off rather bitter. Personally I would have liked some lactose in the mix to balance things out and bring out the other flavors, but for what it is, it's not bad. Medium bodied.

Exceptional brew. Delicious sipper w/all hands on deck. A very smooth sipper with very well hidden ABV. Dark brown to black with rich toffee highlights of mahogany and teak. No real head or lacing. Rich nose that invites. Taste mirrors description... mild moderate roastiness that throws out flavors of chili accented dark chocolate and coffee. Then a notable but subtle caramel sweetness from vanilla.
Not a throw in your face... rather a well crafted melange that is powerful yet not annoyingly pushy.
Mouth feel is full and chewy with some bright briskness but not distracting.
I really enjoyed this beer and would love to have it again. Very happy it was recommended at WhichCraft by Jodie when I asked for a mixed six of the best of Texas. Only so much room in suitcase and I had stressed my interest in big beers. Now wish I had grabbed more of this. He also recommended DDHIPA, and I now (easily) am a BIG fan of Tupps.
Understand it’s a one off... but this needs to be made again... often.

I must say right up front, I live just 30 miles from Typos, but never visited the brewery.
At almost 12% ABV, it has now head, yet very dark as it should be. The smell is Carmel and coffee. Full mouth and the taste sends me to my most contemplative spot.

Pour is nearly jet black, minimal amount of leakage around the edges, and a dark tan head. The coffee and cocoa dominate the nose - I get no chiles or vanilla at all.

The chiles appear on the taste, though, accentuating the heavy coffee and cocoa flavors, but the vanilla escapes me, but in a beer this big and chewy, it's really not missed. Very nice offering by Tupps.
