L: Poured from a growler to a pint glass. Had a dark brown / black color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was an inch and a half of creamy, tan-colored, very long-lasting head. Fantastic lacing.
S: A solid aroma of coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, and an earthy quality.
T: Tasted of a moderate amount of roasted malt (present throughout), a lot of dark chocolate (increases as you go along), lots of coffee, and a tinge of the earthy quality. This flavor gets better as you go along. The chocolate seems to blossom as you go, mixing well with the coffee. This is a thick and well-balanced flavor.
F: A fair amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Full-bodied.
O: This is a solidly made, easy to drink RIS. Drinkable.

Had on tap. This is not for the faint of heart, for this is a robust and boozy RIS. Smell is has roasted malt, coffee, bitter dark chocolate, soil and slight booze. Taste is boozier, on the finish especially, add smoke to the flavors from the smell. Feel is chewy, thick and robust. A sipper for the coldest nights

Nice and dark. Strong barley and roasted malt notes in the smell and beer. Nice roasted notes and chocolate with a good bitterness from the hops on the taste. Overall, a good beer. Reminds me very strongly of Old Rasputin and that is something to say.

On tap:
Odd straight ratings, in this case 4s.
Pour initially had some deep tan head, receding to the sides fairly quickly. Not very creamy in nature, and line is thin, but agitation brings back the froth easily. Black or almost so, but no lacing.
Nose is fairly straightforward roasted malts notes: coffee, some chocolate, a hint of smoke. On point and medium strength.
Taste is also straight forward, with the flavor profile matching the smell, initially. I seem to get a bit of like cherrywood smoke or something as well. The bitterness in the end is a bit stronger than I expected from other reviews. Typical coffee bitterness is there, but also seems to be some green wood like bitterness as well.
Feel is somewhat silky, but not very thick. Ending feels a tad oily. This is the one area I debated a lower-than-four rating.
Decently brewed beer. I think if you are a ca of the style, you should give it a try. I think it Sits firmly on the bitter versus sweet side of a stout, but not overly unbalanced.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
