Kings & Queens revisits the base of Jacks & Jokers (2-Row, flaked oats, Carapils), but substitutes in a dry-hop featuring New Zealand’s Motueka, plus the Pacific Northwest’s tropical and peachy Cashmere.

Poured from a can dated 12/16/2020 into an Alchemist IPA glass. Typical Ocelot haze, not completely opaque, with a pale straw color. Pungent aromas, gooseberry, blueberry, backed up by herbal notes of spruce and mint. Thinner mouthfeel than the haze would suggest, with a dry finish. Looking at the 2019 reviews, it looks like they took note of the complaints and adjusted the recipe for the better. The Cashmere is out, replaced by Motueka. The Azacca has been relegated to a supporting role, with Galaxy taking the lead.

On tap at brewery:
Not my first go with this, but it seems to have held up. Granted, I love how Ocelot has handled Motueka, and this one stands out to me.
Slightly hazy typical Ocelot light golden body at this point, lacing is quite solid but not impressive.
Nose has a slightly perfume edge to a fresh cut wood. There’s some spruce and pine involved, as well.
The taste jumps at me with that woody/reedy/coconut aspect that I think is influenced by the Montueka. It is a more earthy version of what I first thought of Sorachi Ace. Maybe the Cashmere helps or maybe it adds the slightly floral/perfumy aspect, and there’s a somewhat sweet note that ends up with a pseudo-strawberry note, oddly enough.
I love so much of this brew, the detractions seem muted. It has a little more sweetness than I’d like, and that more generic perfume note I could see putting others off, but I’m in for a couple pours.

L: Had this beer on-tap at Growlers to Go - Short Pump, poured into a pint glass. Had a golden yellow color and a slightly hazy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy head that lasted an average amount of time. Fantastic lacing.
S: A pretty good aroma of hops, malt, citrus fruit, peaches, and tropical fruit.
T: Tasted of a bit of peaches (just enough), a good shot of hops (not overdone, though), some tropical fruit notes (mango, in particular), light malt notes (mostly in the finish), and some citrus fruit (orange, lemon). A lightweight, focused, and straightforward beer. Not a groundbreaking flavor, but quite solid.
F: A decent amount of carbonation with a dry finish. Medium-bodied.
O: In general, this is a solid, easy to drink beer. Worth a look.
