This iteration of Sorrow has been a long time coming. Jack brewed the base barleywine over two years ago with a lengthy slumber in mind, constructing it from Golden Promise and premium specialty malts that would age gracefully. Then it went into maple syrup bourbon barrels, and we all went about our lives.
Now it emerges from those barrels, a luscious yet delicate 13.3% malty wonder. The oak imparts vanilla marshmallow without tilting the balance too assertively. Time has led sherry notes to compliment its toffee. And the maple character, evident on the nose, sneaks up at the end of a sip.
Sorrow waited. Sorrow won.
