Still plenty of bottles around in the summer of 2004, when I bought this in St. Petersburg. A darker golden color than most of the beers Ive had here. A mellow malt with a sharper hop nose, too. Other than that, not much to distiguish it, really, from any other Russian lager.

Vena brewed this in 2003 in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of St. Petersburg. It comes in a brown 33cl bottle with a nice enough label. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Bottled on 6/18/03, I opened mine on 8/27/03.
Poured a nice deep clear reddish amber under a tan head that fizzled away too quickly. The nose is strong - sweet caramel, mainly. The mouth is even, medium-bodied. The tasty is features caramel and barley, but there is a slightly sour taste that does not belong here. The finish is almost soda-like sweet. No hops to be found. The aftertaste reminds me of Dr. Pepper, plus malt. This brew leaves an awful lot of its potential unfulfilled. Sigh...
