Brewed at Baltika's Khabarovsk brewery, DB is the cyrillic abbreviation for Far East. As far as I can tell, the DB line is only available in the Russian Far East. I picked up this bottle on a recent trip to Khabarovsk. It's a standard brown half-liter bottle with a white and black label prominently featuring the name's acronym. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 2/27/04, I opened it on 10/14/03.
Pours a deep clear gold (despite the presence of caramel malt) under a good looking full white contoured head that quickly diminshes but leaves good lace. There's lots of malt and grain in the nose, while the mouth is very prickly and medium-bodied. The taste is disappointingly mild, almost bland. What is there is malt, with no hops backing. The taste is a bit spongey, even musty. A bit of metallic hops reveal themselves in the finish - and more as the brew warms. The aftertaste is all malt.
