Notes via stream of consciousness: Buyer beware. I should have known to check. I thought I was getting an authentic Asian rice beer but this is made in St. Petersburg, Russia. It's poured a mostly clear, just slightly hazy, light straw-gold body beneath a... wait, where did it go?... head of bright white. Oh well, at least there's still some lace left behind. The aroma is candyish, mostly sugary and subtly fruity, but not "sweet". There are no hops present but there really shouldn't be, although some examples of the style have a touch of character in the background. On to the flavor... pretty much as the aroma suggests. It's just sweetish and very lightly grainy malt, again, to a certain extent as it should be, but there's also a little bit of an off-flavor that I attribute to a less than stellar fermentation regimen. The mouthfeel seems right, medium bodied and crisp; and there's enough bitterness to get it by, but again, some of the better examples of the style have a snappier bite. This is just a cut-rate version of what it should be. In comparison to some other Russian-brewed lagers it's not bad though, Baltika does a good job, just not the best.

Almost clean but there’s a muddy sort of dirty sewer flavour in the finish. Sharp but in a chemically sort of way. Not great. It’s fizzy. The only other thing I have to say is that you get used to that slightly peculiar earthy flavour. Probably because it’s warmed.
