Of all places on the world, I found this beer (as well as four other) in a coast town in Southern México called Zihuatanejo (remember the movie The Shawshank Redeption?).
Pours a light yellow, white foamy half inch head and leaves some lacing.
Smell is a nice blend of grainy, grassy and malty. Really good.
Taste is very crisp, refreshing, a bit tangy (probably due to carbonation).
Mouthfeel is astringent, with a nice light bitter aftertaste.
Dinkability is high, at least in that hot, damp coastal town where temps were high and humidity was even higher.

Served at a Baltika stand at St. Petersburg's Ploschad Vasstanniya in front of the Moscow train station. This turns out to be a pretty good beer. The draft was pulled at the end of the keg, so we had an overly fluffy head to deal with But finally it resolved to a nice pilsner color. Taste was in favor of its toasty malt over a notably Czech hop profile. A mostly okay beer, and I notice I'm being charitable to any Russian beer by giving it more points for "appearance." If it at least looks like a beer, then OK.
This appears to be an "extension" of the Baltika brand; their website lists a few other varieties of the Arsenalnoye beers.

Standard brown half-liter bottle, plain dark label featuring nothing but the name. Ingredients conform to the purity law - on the label at least. Best before 4/7/04, I opened it on 11/30/03.

The taste opens very badly - lots of corn, or maybe just rotted barley. This initial impression fades into utter mediocrity, and there's very little hops here to save the day. The corny tone returns in the aftertaste. I'll pass on another one.
