Brewed only at Baltika's Rostov brewery, the name refers to the great Don river, while "Yuzhnoye" means southern. Standard brown half liter bottle with a yellow and green label featuring five happy beach vacationers quaffing mugs of beer. The ingredients list conforms to the purity law. Best before 5/17/05, I opened it on 1/19/05. Thanks to Vladimir for bringing this southern belle north to Moscow.

Pours a clear light gold under a big 2.5 finger snow white head that musters a bit of contour and some decent lacing before fading to film and collar. The nose features sweet, slightly vegetable malt. The mouth is light and prickly. The taste is clean, bready malt to start, with a fairly significant but slightly metallic hoppy bite in the finish. Much hoppier than expected for the style, and the alcohol content does not beat you over the head. A pleasant surprise actually.
