Had a 5 oz snifter for dessert after lunch today. This brew was barrel aged in rye whisky barrels for 14 months.
Beer was served brown in the fashion of the quad style with no head.
Nose was rye forward, quite nice.
Taste was initially very rye forward which totally overwhelmed the base beer. Finished with an alcohol burn in the esophagus. Subsequent sips found this accented the rye still to a lesser degree but still making it tough to discern the base beer characteristics.
Mouthfeel was medium bodied but lacking the quad yeast strain smoothness.
Overall this was a fun beer to try. If you like rye give this one a try.
