like most of the beers ive had from glenwood canyon, this one is nothing that is particularly captivating or creative, but in contrast to some of their other beers, this one is quite good. very well made. a little thin on the pour, with only a modest off white head. the nose is medium to heavy roast, with some coffee and unsweetened cocoa bitterness. as much and English style as an American style stout in my opinion. the flavor is identical to the nose with a bitter finish rounded out by some light toffee sweetness from the grains. could use a little fuller body I think, this came across a bit light to me, but the carbonation is good and I really like the bittersweet finish. overall not a beer id drive to glenwood specifically to get, but its a tasty offering once you get there. one of the better beers on their menu.

On tap at the brew pub.
a: dark brown, almost black, lots of brown/red accents. Cream colored nitro head. Extremely dense and rocky. Terrible pour by the bartender though. Still excelent lacing.
S: chocolate milk, coffee, and a few hints of burnt barley.
T: very heavy on the chocolate, coffee lingers underneath, nitro doesn't show itself and doesn't mask a whole lot. Really an excellent stout. Lots of excellent things going on here. Slight hoppy bitterness in there as well.
M: thick and creamy, fairly dry as well, really excellent.
D: great dessert beer. Rounded out my meal quite nicely. Highly recommended stout.

Had this pver turkey day weekend, finally found my notes!
Poured mahogany with 1: tan head with awesome lacing & head retention
S: Coffee, licorice & chocolate were all swirling in my nostrils
T: Coffee up front, followed by chocolate & herbal hop notes. Finishes dry & chocolatey
MF: Rich & creamy, nice
Drinks very easy, one of the best stouts made in CO IMO. I believe this weighs in at 6.0 abv, but not 100% sure

This poured a very nice acidic coffee black color with little head. It smelled a lot like roasted coffee with some chocolaty malt character. It tasted of roasted coffee mixed with dark chocolate and maybe some carmel with almost no carbonation. It went down nice and smooth like a stout should. Definatly give this one a try. I would have ordered it a second time but it was to long of a walk back to my hotel and I was defiantly not doing the walk drunk.

Nice ecru head, thick, black coffee colored stout. The illusion of coffee is perpetuated by the nose - French roast, malty, with a hint of vanilla. The initial taste in wonderful: the perfect blend of bittersweet chocolate and caramel. Smooth mouthfeel, very mild carbonation - comparable to Young's or Smith's chocolate beers. The foam lasted very well on mine. The finish reminded me of Kahlua. This time I tried 8 beers on their "sampler" - since I was driving, and don't get to Glenwood Springs that often. Next visit, if I am not driving, I will definitely order this one.
