Fortside Pils pours a golden-straw color with fluffy white suds that lace the glass like a crown upon the beer’s royal head. Clean pilsner maltiness prevails with a touch of lemon zest spiciness and a crisp, smooth, refreshing finish.

Had this beer about 2 years ago when both my sons were in town, and we went to Fortside Brewing mainly because of their Night King beer. Their Pilsner is decent, but I was expecting better. 35 IBUs Rated 12-21-2022

Poured from 12oz can into a dimpled mug. Canned 1/8/24.

Appearance: pale golden hue with a dash of haze and a finger of frothy ivory foam atop.

Smell: lightly sweet malt with a dash of yeastiness. Not too bad, but rather on the light side.

Taste: malt mildly sweet, with a bit more of that yeasty character, which adds a certain, I don’t know, softness to the whole thing. I find I rather like it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess for the style.

Overall: tasty, a bit thicc, and quite refreshing. A solid German pilsner!

12-ounce can purchased at ABV Public House in Hillsboro, OR. Date stamp reads "CANNED STRONG 05/22/2023". Poured in a small Becher glass.

Look:
The body is pale straw yellow and slightly hazy. Looks unfiltered. A careful pour raises two fingers of loose, sudsy foam. The head collapses pretty quickly and leaves spotty lacing behind.

Smell:
A simple and pleasant combination of doughy Pilsner malt adorned with delicate floral hops. The malt is on the sweet side, but not unpleasantly so. There's also a touch of sulfur.

Taste:
What you smell is what you get. Softly malty, and a bit sweeter than I prefer in a Pilsner. The middle is bland and kind of watery, but it's redeemed by a nice hit of noble hop spiciness. Finishes with mild sweetness that shows a nice toasty flavor at the very end.

Feel:
Light-bodied and clean. Seems a bit undercarbonated. Super easy to drink.

Overall:
Fortside Pilsner has decent hop character, some nice toasty notes, and excellent drinkability. But the first and last impressions it leaves are "Bland and watery." It's a well-made beer and there's nothing wrong with it. But there are far better local Pilsners available.

12oz can (dated 1/12/21) poured into 16oz tulip. Poured a hazy pale yellow color with 1-3/4 inches of white head that had moderate retention and very light lacing.

Basic "beer" scent; some grain, very light hopping, a general sweetness.

Pretty similar on the tongue, with the hops being a bit brighter.

The body was a bit fuller than average for the style, smooth, carried good carb, and had a semi-dry finish.

Drinkability was fine, but the beer wasn't interesting enough to want another.

Overall, a slightly below average version of the style. worth grabbing for the tick, or if there are no other Lagers available.

It's got that corny adjunct flavor going. Not sure I would call this a pilsner at all, much less "German-style."
It's just some kind of light beer and it cost $10.99 a six. If it were half this price it would be worth it I guess.

Running low on new German pilsners to try, so I thought I'd dip into the local shizz. I do live in the PNW where there are more breweries than flannel.
This is a fine pilsner and makes me happy. A Vancouver brew (WA, not Canada, you Commies!) and well-made. Makes a good argument for some New World pils making some homagey tossbacks to the old country. Goes well with corn nuts and some Canadian doom metal (Lochness).

L: The color of beer - nothing notable or attractive here.

S: Hard on lager yeast and bread. Nicely hoppy though for a Pilsner.

T: Biscuits and lager yeast - decent Pilsner fare. Cut grass note also.

F: Slightly lacking in carbonation, thin.

O: I'm getting into Pilsners recently but this one is not my thing. Fine probably for Pilsner fans though I'm sure.

Update: Retried a few days later and enjoyed it much more this time around. Updated rating. Must have been something I ate!
