Poured from 22oz bomber into a tulip.
Appearance: murky brown/black hue with no light let through the body; head is a finger of creamy dark-tan foam. Very good indeed!
Smell: sweet with a classic imperial stout aroma of chocolate and dates; the wine element comes through as kind of a raspberry character among the mix. Kinda reminds me of the classic mix of Young's double chocolate with a raspberry lambic. I'm absolutely down with this.
Taste: sweet and malty, with a caramel character and a good dose of the wine barrel. A lot of interesting flavors here, although perhaps it's not quite as excellent as the aroma.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a moderate carbonation and creaminess. A beer this big should have more body -- although I'll allow the barrel could've helped ferment that away.
Overall: a nice beer indeed. Not exactly an every-night kinda beverage, but I'm enjoying this and really ought to have got a bottle to share.
