Pour is a “soft” black with mahogany brown colors on the edges, and a rich tan head. Aromas are cocoa and ripe cherries. My mouth is now officially watering.
I don’t get any oak on the taste, but I do get tart cherries and chocolate. This is an RIS by name only at 8.8% ABV. It is really enjoyable, but it’s a smidge thin. With more gravitas, this would be world-class, IMHO.

Appearance - The beer was a very deep black color.
Smell - A lot of burnt sugar and roasted malts in the nose. Coffee was also detected.
Taste - Wow. At the front there's a lot of bitter chocolate and dark malts. There is an undercurrent of cherry, that is just enough to get noticed. The bitterness lingers long after the initial taste. I feel like the brewers may have been a little too hesitant on the cherries and undershot.
Mouthfeel - The feel was dark and smooth was a sense of viscosity.
Overall - I think Batch 2 will be a marked improvement.
