Appearance - The beer poured a black coffee color with a dark mocha colored head.
Smell - The nose was strangely Earthy with light hints of maple. I anticipated more sweetness in the nose.
Taste - The base beer seemed to be a modest stout where nothing stands out. It is neither too bitter or too sweet. The maple adds another layer of sweetness, though it is light. The barrel aging balances against the sweetness, but it far from hot.
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is muted,which works with the stickiness of the maple, to make the beer seem thicker than it is.
Overall - This was a nice stout, though I feel the brewers were afraid to take it too far.
