Not real impressed, possible because I've been drinking Stone IRS lately.

Appearance- Pours black with a rich light colored head. Kinda thin and watery in the pour.

Smell- Both the oak and the vanilla come thorough nicely. Mild malt sweetness but kinda bland. No real hop notes at all.

Taste- Here's where it falls down. Watery and bland. Like the smell, the vanilla and oak come through but just barely. Not much malt sweetness, which is what I expect from a stout. No real hop bitterness, there's hops there but nothing outstanding. I think it all comes down to the lack of malt sweetness and thickness. It's watery and weak. It's not a bad beer, no faults to complain about other than the lack of anything outstanding.

Mouthfeel- Crisp and clean, astringent oak comes through clearly.

Drinkability- Definitely a drinkable beer, not much heavier than any pale ale. It's OK, just not great.

Picked up a six-pack of this stout on 1-29-12. Not sure this stout is "retired" as the description says--bottling date on the label was 12-15-11 and the store where I purchased it had quite a few sixes on the shelf.

A nice stout with some really good flavor. Nice vanilla/oaky taste with a smooth finish. Very drinkable. May seem a little watered down to some, but I enjoyed it--a "lite" stout. Really nice overall.

Not the power and depth of some of the more popular barrel-aged stouts on the market right now, but also did not come with the crazy price some of the bigger stouts are getting.
