On draught at the World Beer Festival. An imperial porter aged in Bourbon barrels - sounded very interesting.

Appearance: A deep cherrywood brown, nice hues, with a fuzzy, bubbly, fast-fading tan head. Despite this, the lacing is surprisingly decent.

Aroma: Very complex. I get coffee, a nice medium roast with citric and woody overtones which may or may not be contributed by something else, a load of other wood notes, some sweet, slightly milky chocolate notes, and a nice whiff of bourbon in the close. As labeled - a bourbon barrel aged Imperial porter.

Taste: A sweet and surprisingly light beer. You expect "bourbon barrel aged" to translate roughly as "knock you on your ass," but this one doesn't fit that bill, and it's nice. There's citrus notes, plenty of fruity character - both dark (malty, like raisins) and light (apple skins) - light hints of vanilla and oak, and that same lightly toasted malt character from the nose.

Mouthfeel: Fits well with the flavor profile. It's light, relatively even and smooth, and milky/creamy.

Drinkability: Wouldn't mind a glass of this one one bit. A well-rounded beer made slightly more complex by aging it in barrels, and not done in a "dominating" fashion - the bourbon/oaky/woody characters could have easily overwhelmed this beer, so kudos for keeping it manageable.
