A- Thick black traditional English Stout color with a thick light caramel head about an inch thick. Good retention and big hunky and sticky caramel lacing. Poured into the glass with a sense of purpose you can see. Alive with possibility!
S- Huge earthy, Doughy malt nose with big coffee notes and a faint sweet almost salty aroma. Kind of like the ocean, but that could have been because it was right down the street. Heavy malted effervescence with plenty of toasted grain.
T- Sweetened coffee and nutty cocoa bite with a splash of what seemed to be a figgy aftertaste. Big flavor but mild alcohol. Not a traditional English Stout by any means. A capturing but unobtrusive stout.
D/M- Very smooth and buttery. Good crisp pull on the tastebuds with a sweet lingering aftertaste. Loved this one!!! By far one of the best Stout's I have ever had.

A: Poured a dark opaque color with a virtually no head.
S: On the nose was light chocolate, dry roasted malt and a touch of coffee.
T: For flavor there was a roasted flavor with sweet and salty notes, light black coffee and finished with subjective salty oyster hints.
M: slick, lightly carbonated with a touch of acidity.
D: Good drinkability, a quick finish that was oyster like and quite interesting always bringing you back for the next sip out of curiosity.

Served at the Rams Head in Historic Savage Mill.
Appearance: Very dark garnet, with a nice one-finger head with decent retention and good lacing.
Smell: Roasted malts, but subtle nose all the way around.
Taste: much more hoppy/bitter than I expected, which almost made up for the scarcity of chocolate/coffee flavors. More hop character than I'm accustomed to see in a stout, the bitterness here comes from hops, not burnt grain.
Mouthfeel: lighter than I prefer in a stout, but it helps drinkability
Drinkability: not bad, light enough to session.

This is a pint served cold at The Ram's Head/Fordham Brewing Co. in Annapolis, MD.
Appearance: The stout is black with sublte brown hints when held to light. There is a bit of head.
Smell: Roasted malts dominate the ale. There is a bit of sweetness in the nose as well.
Taste: The stout has a deep rich coffee flavor. There is a bit of astringency in the ale that overpowers a bit. It has a long finish, leaving a nice roasted malt taste in one's mouth long after the sip is gone.
Mouthfeel: Very smooth on the palate, this is an enjoyable ale.
Drinkability: The ale is surprisingly drinkable, even on a hot spring day.

The beer poured simply black with a nice tan head that left a decent lace. Frankly I could'nt detect much aroma (I was drinking this at Crabby Dicks so the tables full of steamed crabs might have simply overwhelmed it). The taste made up for it. It was a nice blend of caramel and coffee, then it had a nice finish that left an aftertaste just like an oyster does. The feel was smooth and light, and slightly oily. I really liked this Stout, and will definately be looking to get more the next time I'm in the area.

Had this on tap at the Baltimore location. Pours a pitch black with a small beige head and a little lacing. Aroma smells just like roasted coffee. Taste is a nice dry roasted malt with some strong hints of chocolate and caramel coming through. Medium/full bodied with a great creamy mouthfeel, this is a pleasure to drink. Definitely my favorite beer from Fordham.

I had a 4 ounce sample at Savage Mill in the Ram's Head Tavern. Poured a deep black with a small brownish head and very light carbonation, all nice for style. Nose was teeming with a roasted cocoa aroma. Flavor was malty and dry, body was very nice and chalky. Aftertaste was long and dry, Very nice beer.

Well I polished off an entire pitcher by myself so I have to say this is a nice session stout. It is dead black and had some head of caramel shading. Smells of roasted goodness and a touch of fishy saltyness, but it is barely there that most of the time I do not notice. It tastes like it smells but with a nice bittering and it is very smooth. Well worth a try.

This is definitely a toss up for my favorite at the new Ram's Head in downtown B'more.
Pours a beautiful jet black. The bartender left a quarter inch of dark caramel head on top. Lacing stayed throughout.
First off, it had an "oyster stout" aroma that I noticed was different from other stouts when reviewing Yard's Love Stout. The waiter and the paperwork at the bar only had it listed as a stout. It has the usual coffeeness, but there is something else there. Not fishy, more organic in nature.
Smooth and creamy with just the right amount of cocoa and coffee bitterness.
Medium to heavy mouthfeel finished with a slight bitterness. Went extremely well with both light and heavy foods at the restaurant. Worth a few.

On nitro 7/9/04 at Buffalo Wings Factory in Ashburn, VA.
Black with cascading browns after pour and a nice thick creamy smooth light brown head. Uninterrupted sheets of lace through most of the pint. Nice balanced aroma of roasted malts, chocolate malts, and a hint of coffee. Nice roasty flavored stout in the manner it smelled but with a good bit of sweetness so as not to be too dry. Very creamy smooth at first but overall medium bodied by the end.
An excellent stout ! Very sessionable !!

Pours a jet black color with a slight tan head.Overall roasted aroma thats slightly coffee-like.The roasted and coffee aromas carry over to the flavor with slight chocolate notes.I dont know if this beer uses any oyster "essence" or flavors like one or two British stouts I have tried but there is certainly none evident.Goes down smooth and has a pleasant mouthfeel.A good effort.

Jet black beer, tan head. Very creamy and more on the full side of medium-bodied. Some chocolate and coffee in the nose and even more in the flavor. Pretty standard stuff for a stout -- roasted bitterness and chocolate flavors, perhaps more chocolatey than some. Notable here is an exceptionally smooth, milky mouthfeel -- a little odd in a stout that's a little more bitter than sweet. Very good nonetheless.

Oyster Stout poured an opaque black with a medium brown head that lasted for the duration and left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was faint coffee, coaco, and roasted grain. Up front taste was bitter roasted barley quickly followed by black coffee and chocolate flavors. The finish was dry in the mouth but sweet and bitter in taste with flavors of roasted grain and toffee. Aftertaste was mocha and black malt. Mouthfeel was medium with a pleasant smoothness.
Overall a pleasant stout. IMO it could be a bit bolder and served at about 15ºF warmer. Flavors and aromas greatly improved as it warmed.
