truly one of the most unique beers i have had in a long time, and thats saying something because ive had some weird ones this year! this is a classic styled gose, lightly tart, briny, and incredibly sessionable with a light wheaty body, near perfect dryness, and a nice low abv. what makes it interesting and special, is the inclusion of a whole mess of heirloom tomatoes, some of which were apparently smoked. i love a good field beer, and this is certainly that! i aint scared! the tomatoes dont seem to influence the appearance much, it looks a touch flat and maybe lightly orange, but its not red or pulpy, apparently cleaned up pretty nicely. i can smell the smoke and the tomato vine aspect, and i get the acidity of the tomato right away in the flavor with the lactic sourness, which is very clean and professionally done here. the tomato flavor is very natural, which it needs to be for this to be good, and i can taste the ripe flesh for sure. the smoked part is subtle but adds some cool nuance, and there is an almost bloody mary vibe here, herbal, citrusy, even a black pepper hint. this is very natural and organic tasting to me, really well proportioned with the tomato, and refreshing oddly enough, i drink one, and i want another right away. ingredients like this have been underutilized i think, and its nice to see a brewer use them so confidently and effectively. i thought this was awesome, it helps that the base beer is excellent, but this was a real treat!
