an american ipa with beets! cool idea, but i dont love the execution as much as i hoped i would. it has a pretty and distinctive purple color about, pretty clear too, radiant in the glass, and with an average looking white head with some lacing left behind as it drinks. the hops are kind of generic to me in both nose and taste, high enough alpha to be more pungent than the beers, but not interesting or dosed highly enough to stand out as unique in any way. the beer is somewhat subtle too aside from the color, but it does contribute a cool earthiness that i thought might pair well with some piney northwestern hops, but that element never really develops in the aroma, and even though i like the flavor of the beer pretty well, i wanted more from both the beets and the hops, and think the full potential of this idea has not been realized here. the body has some heft from the beets which i like and the whole thing remains relatively dry which is cool. i think in the future this will be better, some tweaks here and there would make this wildly interesting, it just didnt quite get as cool as it should of this time around. still, i liked this place enough to go twice this week, and think the beers are as good as the food in here!
