A very enjoyable sweet milk double IPA but don't expect much coconut because there is very little.

Lord Hobo Brewing Co. "Aloha From New England"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON: 07/02/21 09:47:43"
$4.99 @ Foodery Beer, Phila., PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: It smelled like coconut as I poured it so that's a good sign. The body is a cloudy yellow-gold beneath a short head of white foam. The aroma is bright with coconut that's backed by soft tropical fruits. The taste is just as full with the coconut upfront again but not by so much. A good bit of orange and pineapple supports it as well as mango, passionfruit, papaya, and guava. It's a bit grassy and peppery as well which helps to balance it. The malt is sweet and bready. The alcohol makes its presence known even at just 8% ABV. It finishes mostly dry with the malt and fruit fading shortly to leave the grassiness and peppery spiciness lingering. In the mouth it's full-medium in body and creamy smooth due to the lactose and a moderate carbonation level. Unfortunately for me I'm very sensitive to the lactose and it's distracting; it's like I can feel it on my teeth; most people will never even notice it though. The only other drawback here is the lack of head retention and lacing but that's clearly due to the moderate carbonation which gives you the smoother mouthfeel so I'm just going to accept that as a fair trade-off and move on. I was afraid that maybe this would be too sweet but it's not. It would make a great dessert beer, no doubt, but I think you could enjoy one of these on occasion as it is.

Sampled June 25, 2022 at the Kingston, NH Brewfest.

The appearance is about what one would expect with its orange-amber color and modest head.

Interesting array of aromas from apricot and bread to light coconut. The latter is subtle to the other characteristics.

Medium mouthfeel.

Sweet taste to start and then those apricot and bready aspects kick in. Coconut downplayed. Nothing I might try a second time buyt devent in its way.

I taste ZERO coconut. Tastes like an ipa with milk sugar thrown in. Waste of money.

Lord Hobo Aloha from New England
16 oz. can
Canned on 7/12/21

Pours a hazy copper orange with a frothy white head that leaves sticky lacings on the side of the glassware

Whiffs of citrus fruit meets freshly baked Almond Joy cookie

Toasted biscuit malt backbone with a simple syrup sweetness. Fruity bombs of dried mango chunks, tangerine, pineapple squares and a hint of black pepper. There is also a big dried shredded coconut flavor that kicks in on the finish, reminiscent of a macaroon/Almond Joy hybrid

A unique and interesting offering from Lord Hobo, the 8% ABV is rather well hidden. I found this enjoyable overall, but too sweet and sugary for my liking. I'd likely have one or two at a sitting max and be done.

So, these milkshake IPAs tend to be aggressively sweet and way out of balance. So, why did I pick this up? Just for the hell of it pretty much. Sometimes it's fun to branch out and try this weird shit. Who knows, it could be good. Coconut in a NEIPA? Sounds like it might end up being a piƱa colada. Let's see what it's got

Pours a hazy dark gold with 3 fingers of clingy white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing

The nose here is surprisingly hop forward, though the coconut definitely has a large presence. I'm picking up on aromas of grassy hops, coconut milk, overripe mango, papaya, light pithy grapefruit, and doughy malt

It's sweet in taste for sure, but once again it is quite restrained for this substyle that can so often be oversaturated with fruit to the point of being unrecognizable. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting orange rind, coconut milk, bready malt, and light pineapple. The swallow brings notes of creamed coconut, overripe mango, custard, orange, and doughy malt, all with a nice heap of sugar poured on top

A medium full body pairs with very gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick and decadent beer. Finishes off dry but sweeped over by a wave of pastry sweetness

This is certainly passable as a fun beer, nothing that should be taken seriously. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, but I sure as hell wouldn't turn one down

Picked-up a four-pack of cans at Bradford's in Plymouth for about fifteen dollars. My tenth brew from these guys. This is extremely decadent, ok to have one, would be coconuts to have more.
