This full-bodied Mexican Chocolate Stout adds a little kick to your beer drinking experience. Hocho is reminiscent of hot chocolate but finishes with a well-balanced pinch of spice. The combination of lactose and various dark malts provides the beer with its rich, hot chocolate like taste that is topped off with the Mexican hot chocolate inspired flavors of cayenne pepper and cinnamon; Hocho leaves a taste that lingers long after you swallow. With its roasty undertone, thick nature, and pleasant spice, Hocho is sure to keep you warm as we head into the colder weather months.

Canned 11/30/21

I don’t purchase them regularly, but Stouts that use peppers as an adjunct are always fun to try. They can turn out to be total train wrecks if done wrong, but they’re quite nice when they strike a good balance. Let’s hope this one leans towards the latter

Pours a very dark brown with 2 fingers of light tan head that fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing

The pepper aspect is a background note in the nose, but it is most definitely cayenne. I’m picking up on aromas of acidic coffee, roasted malt, cocoa powder, cayenne pepper, light vanilla, earthy hops, and a general fruitiness which is a nice touch

This one is a bit weird in taste. Nothing really feels defined, it’s a bit flabby. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting milk chocolate, light cayenne pepper, vanilla, caramel, and dark bread. The swallow brings notes of acidic coffee, cayenne pepper, cocoa powder, caramel, toast, and a touch of vanilla. Opens up more as it warms and ends up being pretty good but nothing spectacular

A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a rich and smooth beer. Finishes slightly sticky but the peppers dry it out over time

Other than being a bit weird and bland when tasted colder, this one ends up being pretty good. A fun beer for sure

From a 16 fl. oz. can dated 11/30/21. Sampled Jan 21, 2022

The appearance is a deep dark brown to near black color with a modest, diminishing tan head.

The aroma comes across as sweet chocolate malt akin to chocolate fudge, cocoa, lactose, and little to no hop character.

Smooth medium mouthfeel.

The chocolate sweetness is right up front in the flavor but then the spicy peppers kick in on the backside adding a fiery lingering punch.

16 oz can.

Pours a dark cola color with a finger of creamy tan head. Recedes rather quickly, leaving some spotty lacing.

Strong aromas of chocolate and roasted malts as well as some bread, cayenne peppers and faint cinnamon.

The taste follows with chocolate, dark malts and bread. The cinnamon is far stronger here and the peppers give a nice little kick on the finish as the beer warms.

The feel is medium bodied with lower carbonation. Soft and smooth. Finishes with a lingering spiciness.

Overall, this is a very good stout. It's pretty standard otherwise but the cayenne peppers really seal it for me. Gotta let it warm up a bit so they come out of hiding.
