Regular stouts never produce this much stark white foam when poured out of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug. In this case, a "white stout" might just be a concoction without barley; therefore, not really a stout. There's fair warning by the label. After the pint can is emptied, the color to be observed is golden amber. It's a bit dull and a bit more opaque, but it's pleasing for the eyes. The foamy mess has reduced itself to a modest white head, without becoming ridiculously irregular. It smells as it is advertised, mainly pastry sweet, with a light cream and chocolate aspect far behind. First noticed is how thin the body. One of the first goals to obtain when producing a desert beer should probably be some sort of body. This is seriously short in that. The taste is nicely sweet, so as advertised, right there. But, it's a stretch to find much to taste that would remind one of the chocolate and custard wonderfulness that makes a Boston Cream donut, or pie, one of America's favorites. Overall, there's shallow sweetness, with only limited taste references to its target. It does get some of it, but not all. Not bad, but certainly not one of the great desert brews.
